RARE Goggin - This is a wonderful and good quality Bog Oak Celtic Cross dating to Circa 1870. This Bog Oak Hand Carved Cross is a 140 Years old replica of the 5.5-metre Muiredach's High Cross which is regarded as the finest high cross in the whole of Ireland. It is named after an abbot, Muiredach mac Domhnaill, who died in 923 (yes over 1000 years ago) and features Biblical carvings of both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. This Piece of Irish History with Monastic detail is raised on a plinth with Etched detail describing the Cross. The Piece has The Cornelius Goggin Stamp on the Base and i have included a picture of the actual Cross for comparison. This is an amazing piece of Irish History and needs to be looked after by someone who understands the importance of this Irish Antique. Height 14" (36cm) Item Sold
